The World Islamic Economic Forum (WIFE) and the South East Asian Co-operation (SEACO) Foundation jointly organised the ‘9th WIFE Global Discourse on Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR): seizing the possibilities for the future’ at Radission Blu Dhaka Water Garden Hotel in the capital on Wednesday.
This is the first time the flagship global discourse of the WIFE has been held outside of Malaysia.
Prime minister’s international affairs adviser Gowher Rizvi attended the event as the chief guest.
The 9th Global Discourse mainly identified the important social, economic, political and environmental trends that will shape the 4IR with viewpoints between academicians, entrepreneurs, industry leaders and experts in related fields, bringing about solutions to current and future challenges, according to a press release issued after the programme.
The release said that while the Third Industrial Revolution predicated upon digital information technologies, the Fourth Industrial Revolution was a hybrid of digital, physic and biological worlds that challenged existing business models, institutions and assumptions about the way the world worked.
The 4IR was being built upon new and innovative technologies like artificial intelligence, automation, robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), additive manufacturing, among others, it added.

Bangladesh Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution vice-president Syed Tamjid ur Rahman moderated the event. SEACO board of governors’ members M Anwar Hossain and Md Abdul Karim also spoke at the programme.
