Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed for the formation of a regional economic forum involving five Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states of South and Southeast Asia region, BSS reports.
Hasina made this proposal during her talks with Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on Apr 22.
Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque told the media, the proposed organisation will be called ‘the Southeast Asian Cooperation Organisation’. SEACO will be a regional economic forum where Bangladesh, Maldives, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei will be members.
The Brunei Sultan assured visiting PM about “favourably considering” the matter, the foreign secretary said.
Two leaders also discussed issues related to bilateral interests and international concerns including the Rohingya crisis at the talks.
