South East Asian Co-operation (SEACO) Foundation and World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation has jointly organized the 9th WIEF global discourse keeping the theme of “Seizing the Possibilities for the Future”.
The event was held at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday. This was the first time that the Flagship Global discourse was held outside of Malaysia and in Bangladesh.
The 9th WIEF Global Discourse mainly identified the important social, economic, political and environmental trends that will shape the 4IR with viewpoints between academicians, entrepreneurs, industry leaders and experts in related fields, bringing about solutions to current and future challenges. Prime Minister’s Private Sector Advisor Salman F Rahman highlighted the significance and importance of 4th Industrial Revolution for Bangladesh at the WIEF-SEACO Roundtable opening session. The welcoming remarks was given by SEACO Foundation board of governors member Prof Dr M Anwar Hossain commenced the event by his introductory remarks.
Bangladesh Open University Founder Vice Chancellor and Southeast University Bangladesh Founder Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shamser Ali gave the audience a quick glance at the industry revolution explaining through the history and how we reached the 4th Industry Revolution.
Robi Axiata Ltd Managing Director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed focused on Robi’s contribution as an organization for the program on 4th Industrial Revolution and adaptation of new technology to help Bangladesh progress in the 4IR era. Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Gowher Rizvi attended the program as the chief guest. Gowher Rizvi enlightened the session and started his speech with the challenges of preindustrial era and different aspects of industrial revolution and what it needs to be a human in 4th Industrial Revolution.
He feels that the ideal meaning of revolution in terms of technology is to improve the lives of all people in the community and not just some. He mentioned that knowledge is becoming obsolete and we need skilled people in a fast thinking technological world by disciplining their minds and making them a lifelong learner and this can be achieved through establishing universities like SEACO University.
Bangladesh Government should emphasize more on the establishment of this university, he added. Earlier, leaders of the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) and the South East Asian Cooperation (SEACO) Foundation highly praised Bangladesh’s impressive economic progress in the last one decade. Bangladesh attained tremendous development in the field of economy in the last one decade under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, they said.
Their appreciation came when a seven-member delegation of WIEF and SEACO Foundation, led by WIEF Secretary General Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence in the city this afternoon. PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
The WIEF and SEACO Foundation leaders said they had a productive dialogue at the WIEF-SEACO Foundation roundtable in Dhaka.
The roundtable with the theme of ‘Regional Collaboration: Transforming Economies’ was held in a city hotel on Tuesday. The WIEF secretary general invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to join the next WIEF Conference to be held in Qatar in 2020. He proposed Bangladesh host the WIEF Conference in 2021. The prime minister appreciated the agenda of the roundtable jointly organized by WIFE and SEACO Foundation. She said the government is now setting up 100 economic zones across the country for further industrialization and job creation.
Sheikh Hasina said lands in the economic zones are now being allocated to the foreign investors alongside the local entrepreneurs.
AT Kearney Inc Partner Dr Hasan Shafi, Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) President and CEO Dr Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman, Eco Bumi Arkitek Director and Principal Architect Ar Siti Rozaimeriyanty DSLJ Haji Abdul Rahman, and Legislative Council Member Brunei Darussalam, among others, were present as panelists.
The moderator of the event was Bangladesh Center for Fourth Industrial Revolution (BD4IR) Vice-President Syed Tamjid ur Rahman. The event was concluded with vote of thanks by BOG- SEACO member Md Abdul Karim
